The Politics of Hate
For the past many months, Edinburg Mayor Joe-Joe the Clown has led a hate campaign aganst State Rep. Aaron Pena, who runs A Capitol Blog and has helped spearhead RGV interest in probably the most fiscally sucessful session in Texas History.
Joe has spent the past months rallying support to oust House Speaker Tom Craddick not because he hates Tom Craddick, but because he hates Rep. Aaron Pena. As I have told you before, Edinburg does not exist in a vacuum and Joe-Joe the Clown's tricks have an effect on the whole Valley.
This is the reason why I fear his involvement in State Level government. Locally, he is the sole cause of many delays and stalled projects, plus he just wants to see many projects fail or die before development ... solely because they are not his projects. These include, the Edinburg Police Department and the Edinburg Mall.
But what effect may this man's hate have on the rest of the Valley? As stated in the May 27, 2007 "Valley budget-writers say they like budget, but threat of block looms" article in The Monitor, the Rio Grande Valley risks losing over $200 million in state money for valley projects. "It remains to be seen whether the budget will pass before today’s deadline in the House, which is in disarray since chaos broke out Friday when some lawmakers tried to unseat Craddick."
And where does Edinburg News' Mayor Joe stand? Well, (1) Joe hates Rep. Aaron Pena, (2) it was Rep. Aaron Pena who helped bring over $200 million to the RGV, over $10 million to Edinburg alone and (3) in this Rep. Aaron Pena has done more for Edinburg in one year than Joe has done in his whole time as mayor .... roughly a decade.
Because of his envy of Rep. Aaron Pena, Joe is cheering for the filibuster and ousting of Tom Craddick, which may lead to the huge loss of money to Edinburg and the rest of the Rio Grande Valley.

Joe and Gus went to Las Vegas to attend a retail mall conference; wouldn't you know they didn't attend a single meeting with the Edinburg mall people! I am almost certain that those 4 thousand people are not representative of a school district of such magnitude. Its a damn shame as to how we can't get out of these same ol politicians seeking office for personal gain, Edinburg aint doing GREAT and will never compare to that of McAllen's booming Economy and even though Edinburg is larger land wise. Plenty of untapped land just north of us.

If Joe is that powerful, that he is responsible for this coupe attempt on Craddick, then doesn't it stand to reason we want someone that powerful as our mayor. I mean, the guy is rallying and succeeding at making life hard on Speaker Craddick.

Maybe we should send him to the UN. He is so powerful, maybe he can end war, poverty, overpopulation and the world's diminishing oil reserves.

For those of you who do not know what a New Democrat is, well, here are some major New Democrat issues.
But I do got to admit. I am leaning more and more to the left as time goes on. My two biggest political concerns ... (1) elected official accountability and (2) immigration.
Well Earn, I have no quarms with your number one issue, because elected officials have tried to be held accountable in La Joya ISD and some how still manage to stay in power. I don't know if this is the fault of them controlling the elections from the start, or the amount of people that still voted for them despite their indisputable corruption cause they still believe their little buses are at stake.
Its a combination of both. The elected official and candidates often blow smoke in order to get elected.
There are three types of voters.
First, there is the voter who is related to the elected official and/or candidate, so he/she does not care about the lies.
Second, there is the hired votes ... the politiqueras.
Then, there is the third voter who is not related nor bought, yet led to believe that what the elected official and/or candidate is saying is truth, either by the elected official and/or candidate's relatives or their politiqueras.
You can't do much for the first two types. But there is hope.
The only thing we can do is expose the lie and inform the third voter. The only major drawback is that the elected official is usually in power and with the majority of voters.
So, what you and I do is call the popular guy a liar in front of his friends and family.
Its not a easy job, but someone has to do it.

It is sad that their are a very small group of troublemakers who have given our town a bad name. I grew up in Edinburg with the Penas, the Palacios and all the long time families of this town. We know that Aaron grew up and is close friends with many in the Palacios family as he is with all of us. Shame on those who are spreading lies about these good people. I will tell you this, it is obvious to us that someone or some group has their eyes of the representatives job. We the people of Edinburg will not look favorably on that person if this is the way he thinks he can get elected.
To the last person, its Rene "no mas" Ramirez. He holds a long time grudge against the Palacios for moving him out of office. He doesn't like Pena because Ramirez was Eddie Saenz campaign manager when the rep beat him. It was pretty embarassing and he has held a grudge for the past several years. David Diaz and Ramirez have an interesting relationship and that is the reason for the hate you see here.
Just watch Rene and you will know where the hate is coming from. He figures he can only win by tearing Mr. Pena down. Pretty sad.

why should students pay for a health center and a Rec. Students already pay high tuitions. The Rep. hasn't taken care of UTPA. I'm a student and I can't believe that with the surplus the state had this session Aron couldn't help us out. He was more intrested in helping his Law Firm out than the UTPA.

Well, the students here at Pan Am are more than ready to represent Rep. Pena. He has been there for us and now, if he does ask for our help we will be there. We voted for the Rec. center but, the Rep. secured the funds. We are a well oiled machine here on campus and will defend one of our own. Pena is a former President of the YD's, Former chairman of the Tejano Democrats, Former candidate for Texas Party Chairman and has donated more money to the Democratic Party than almost any other person in the Valley. The Democratic Party is a large tent and we welcome conservatives, liberals, minorities and majorities. We are a tolerant party. I know that the TDP will return the many favors the Rep. has given to this State and to the Party that he loves.

WOW, I just read The Rep.'s website. I can't wait. The fight is on. I doubted that The Monitor had correctly portrayed his feelings for running for re-election. I think everyone should help him get re-elected because he has proven that he is the one that can get a medical school for us here in the valley. A freshman rep would set Edinburg back about 10 years. We need to have him working on bringing the medical school to us in Edinburg.

Have these supposed stories prevented him from doing his job in Austin?...or being successful in bring in a Drug Treatment Facility to Edinburg?
