As previously shown in "Robert Pena Jr. is one of the rats from Edinburg News," Robert Pena, Jr. is definately a contributor, if not an author, of Edinburg News, where he used the name Mitch Garcia and the fax number (956) 318-1071 to request information for his Edinburg News website.
Just recently, Edinburg News released a post saying that "the recall on Gene Espinoza was very real. We just decided to drop it cause of the 75% of the vote that was needed to recall him."
The picture on the left shows the disclaimer "Paid by the Informed Citizens of Edinburg."
So who are the Informed Citizens of Edinburg? Remember what was revealed in "What is a "Taco" Voter?"
On May 3 and 5, 2006, a negative advertisement was placed against Omar Palacios, with the disclaimer as “Pol. Ad paid by Informed Citizens of Edinburg, P.O. Box 178, Pharr TX 78577.” However, James R. Gray, Publisher of the Edinburg Review, verified that the person who paid the ad was Gilbert Mercado, III.

Therefore, the recall for Mayor Pro-Temp Gene Espinoza was spearheaded by Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa and ECISD Trustee-wannabe Gilbert Mercado, III. The "we" in the "We just decided to drop it" refers to Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa and ECISD Trustee-wannabe Gilbert Mercado, III.

That leaves Ciro Trevino and Omar Palacios as the swing vote.
My plea to Ciro Trevino and Omar Palacios, don't vote for Jaime Chavana, Greg Garcia and Robert Pena, Jr. for the leadership roles or the Rats of Edinburg News will control the ECISD Board.

Now you know why half of Jaime Chavanas family works for the district and Gregs wife and sister have high paying jobs in administration. So to correct you, no it's not the first time that a board members family memeber has been hired, but this is the first year that it is actually against district policy.
I am sure you probably also said "Yeah right, by who?" when Melba was running. But looks like that didn't happen right? Let me see, she lost by almost 3 to 1 votes. Why do you continue to perpetuate lies? The nepotism rule has been on the books for years and years. Family members of board members could NOT get hired 20 years ago and still cannot get employed by ECISD if they fall within those LONG-STANDING classifications.
Employees ALREADY in the district before their relatives were elected to the board don't fall under any sort of grandfather clause. Common sense (which I know you're unfortunately lacking) should have told you that.

Now what's different? Well I talked to a few board members last year to find out what this was all about. Well it turns out that people cannot directly supervise their own relatives. Makes perfect sense, but you wouldn't know it if you ever saw the coaching situation at Economedes. Also, BOARD MEMBERS CANNOT hire family members. Now yes it has been in the books before but what changed last year? The board removed the loophole. You see, board members were not allowed to hire family members but the superintendent WAS able to hire the boards family members, not his own family though. Now from what I remember, the board used to allow the superintendent to hire people so they wouldn't be the ones to hire their family members. Get it? I know it's a gray area, but trust me, a few board members used it to their advantage. I can assure you that before that time, there were brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews of board members who were hired because the board itself didn't hire them. Now under the new rule, the board has to vote to hire the people so they are responsible for who is being hired. Get it? It really isn't rocket science. If it helps, try reading it again really slow. So it's not that Earn hates certain board members, earn most likely doesn't like the way certain board members ran the district as their own little side job making money here and there off the taxpayer dime meanwhile dragging our schools down by stuffing their unqualified family members in high positions in our schools and administratin buildings. Speaking of board members taking care of coaches and the whole nepotism issue, is it true that Jesse Salinas is directly supervised by his brother Oscar Salinas. How did that happen? I also heard from a very relible source that he gets paid more than his brother who is the head coach and more than the principal of that campus. Isn't that a scary situation where an assistant coach gets paid more than the principal. How do I tell my children that a coach who recently got arrested for DWI makes more than a principal who actually had to go out and get an education. How do I tell them that certain board members feel is more important to protect coaches jobs instead of protecting children. Heck, you would think with all the money they spend on coaches at that campus that they would be able to produce a winning team.

Although I disagree with Rep. Peña's decision to vote for the reelection of Speaker Craddick, I do know first-hand that he has suffered financially in order to represent us in the Texas Legislature. For that sacrifice, he does deserve a lot of credit.
In looking at his legislative agenda, though, I find that he was as effective a legislator before he voted for Craddick as he has been since he voted for the speaker. Yes, Craddick had appointed him to the powerful House Appropriations Committee in the past two terms, and that will allow Aaron to rightfully take credit for hundreds of millions of dollars in state funding for projects in his district and deep South Texas.
Aaron was caught in quite a dilemna. Vote against Craddick, and he would be accused of having no loyalty to the man who put him on the Appropriations Committee that brought tons of state money to Edinburg and the Valley. Or vote for the Republican Speaker Craddick, and be accused of betraying the Democratic Party that put Aaron in office to begin with.
No one said it would ever be easy. Let's keep that in mind before we go out crucifying people.
