Edinburg’s Stockholm Syndrome
The relationship between the City of Edinburg and its citizens is argumentatively identical to that seen in the Stockholm hijacking. We are in a situation where if you are good to Joe and live by his acceptance, then you are allowed to live and prosper within the City of Edinburg. But if you are against them … well, then you are going to get hit, either economically, politically or in Joe’s Edinburg News Blog.
Here’s the bottom line. If you are a friend of Joe, then “no one gets hurt.”
Let me explain. I could not understand why the citizens of Edinburg voted for Joe while knowing of all the bad he did for the City, such as Calpine, CBL, Eddie Saenz, Edinburg Roadrunners, Glasscock Brewery and Super Splash, and all the kickbacks and favors he did for his friends, Albert Figueroa, David Negrete, Eddie Saenz, Hector Casas, Diamantina Gayton, and Mary Villarreal. Then it shocked me when the citizens of Edinburg voted more of his cronies into office.
So I ask … why do these Joe-idians, not limited to the people mentioned above, keep on defending Joe? Why does this man have so many martyrs and apologists?
Maybe the reason these people end up defending Joe, who overall oppresses them, is because they identify with him on some deep-seeded emotional level, as the person who will take care of everything and all you need to do is just “do what I say.”
Here, Joe makes it very easy for the Joe-idians. Joe will think and act and speak for them, thus relieving them from responsibility. Yup, just like children. You find this kind of relationship prevalent in domestic violence situations and cults (hence, the Joe-idians).
So how do you cure this? Simple, grow up and think for yourself.
If you fear responsibility, then you are willing to give up freedom. However, if you want freedom, then you gain responsibility.

Your just upset cause the Palacios don't have any more power. Palacios getting ad litem fees, Ricardo Rodriguez now judge for more ad litem fees to other family members.
Rick Palacios millionaire off the taxpayers and ad litem fees. Joseph Palacios working for the city now with the county. So don't give me that shit. The community can see what was happening and they told you and the Palacios to go to hell. Have a nice day Patty Palacios
The only reason Joe's incompetent people have won a couple of races is cause they have figured out that if you pay enough for politiquerras you win. Plain and simple..Oh yah and make sure old DA doesnt have his guy running. All the politiquerras in the world won't take down Pena. Take your best shot though Eddie,Joe. Hope you have a couple of Mill. to lose. He won't lose guys. You heard it here first.
What the hell is up with Ochoa's hair? In your little video, he has a head full of hair. When he was in office before, he had the Bozo the Clown look. He looks like a freakin' Chia Pet. I guess he took the hair off his ass and put it on his head. That's why he is such a shithead!
"All the politiqueras in the world won't take down Pena."
Word on the street is that mayor Joe Ochoa has left his wife and is looking for a little change in lifestyle. So he wants to break his term of office so he can run against our hometown favorite representative and head to Austin. Problem is even in the slanted polls of Edinburg News Pena is favored by the people of Edinburg. Must be quite an embarassment that Pena is up by 70 plus percent in the Edinburg News poll even when day after day they try to slam him. Keep on movin on rep.
Hah! Hah! About 75% of E-Saenz-News' own readers want Pena back. I wonder how long they will keep that poll up? Let's count the days. My guess - not long!
75% - isn't that the percentage Pena beat Ochoa and Saenz in the last election? I know it is somewhere up there with the big ass-whoopns of the decade.
Hello, Earn,
Regarding whether you deleted comments or not, how does the author of a posting sent to you then get back on your blog site and delete that posting?
I don't know how that is done. I know you are pretty savvy when it comes to technical issues and the internet, so please let the rest of us know.
Thanks.
Easy,
When a reader signs in other than anonymous and they make a post, they have a chance to delete their comment before leaving the site.
That is one of the advantages of signing in as a Google/Blogger or Other.
I can't believe you are still with that.
David tell us who is paying you to do edinburg news?
Pena is about to lose whatever power he has in Austin. Tom Craddick is going to be overthrown. Rene Oliveira and Eddie Lucio Jr. have jumped ship already.
Pena - Craddick = 0
Your poll David shows that your full of gas. 70 plus percent. Keep it up if you dare so that the people in the Valley can see you are a fraud as well as a plagerist.
"Hah! Hah! About 75% of E-Saenz-News' own readers want Pena back. I wonder how long they will keep that poll up?"
I will predict that it will be down in a week. Who is David?
David Diaz
11:07pm: So is it true?
word!
Ochoa is not going to run against PEna...please...that is stupid...
Ya'll need to get your heads out of Earns ass.
Earn is the one who puts Ochoa on a pedistal...He blogs about him about twice a week and makes him into something big. Earns lies are sad...and I love how he shows his proof. (linking back to past posts, that were merely opinion to begin with..or if not opinion...hearsay)
David Diaz, you are a fool. You will get nowhere in life. If I saw you on the street I'd slap you across the face for being such a disrespectful pig on your Edinburg News website. Grow up, David.
I don't like David Diaz, but he is only one of the people at Edinburg News. There are others that exchange writing. You can tell the differences in the style of writing.
I agree with you, Joe is just a little man with many shortcomings. His dreams are nothing more that small visions and halfwits.
Most of the time, Joe will get stumped and seems only tiptoe around controversial issues. I don't know if he merely focuses on the minutia or if he concentrates only on the wee hours of the morning.
Either way, I guess he may only have a limited time to reflect on the city's needs, but what we don't need is a mayor who is piddling in petty politics.
Earn lets face it here. I think you are the bad luck. Every candidate that you have supported has lost in these past couple elections. '
Maybe you should cool down. I know you are dissappointed because you are in a dry spell. And you are now making things up to find news. Real Fox News style...
Little Joey is going to take on Pena :) Please Lord let this be true so that we may rid this wonderfuld city of this sad and pittiful human being. We need to urge Ochoa to take on Pena so we can get new blood in city hall. This man has only created unessesary divisions between a fairly united city. The city of Edinburg was founded by people who wanted to unite our county. We need people in office who are willing to unite our people once more.
Once upon a time I used to believe that there were good people in our city looking out for us and our children. Sadly, over the last couple of years, I find that that is no longer the case...
Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at
the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the
Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until
the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts
from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who
promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that
every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which
is always followed by a dictatorship."
I am finding that this is true here in our city today. I find that we have candidates who are going and making promises to family, friends and voters many for "benefits from the public treasury" such as token jobs, unearned promotions, ect. These people go around masquerading as public servants, but meet behind the scenes (most likely at the social club) to figure out how they can further rape our city. There is a political progression to this process...
1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"
We were lost but then found our way once Joe was out of office. We begain to believe that our city was back in the hands of the taxpayers and out of the pockets of Joe, Hector and Eddie. Without these guys our city progressed at an unparallelled rate. Our standard of living was increased and our city finally had something to be proud of. We jumped out of the shadows of obscurity and vaulted to the third most populated city in our area with the lowest unemployment. We began to take the direction that we were headed for granted because Joe and his cronies had you believe that the growth was natural and not attributed to any one person or group of people. Where are we at now? Growth has slowed, and slow moving projects are now stopped indefinately. We've lost our direction and we're headed nowhere fast and where is our leadership? Is his concern, OUR concern? No. He is more concerned with making an attempt to push himself up the politcal ladder. We've reverted back to dependence on this man and now are facing bondage. We are at a stand still cause this little man is busy trying to fool the public that he and his cronies are all good for our city. Sadly, this situation will continue until we decide once again that Hector and Eddie are stealing too much of our money and the voters from the Palmita figure out there is no way Greg and Robert can deliver on their promises for token jobs in exchange for votes. The good news is that everything is a cycle and people will begin to believe, have faith and finally put that little man to political pasture where jackasses like him belong.
This is John I am in Edinburg if you want to find me at the Circle K having a hot dog
This is John I am in Edinburg if you want to find me at the Circle K having a hot dog
One of the things that amazes me is that no where do you see when Election Day is, not on the political signs, no on any city banners. What this may mean is that the rival factions are content to court the small and controllable group of voters through politiqueras, and see who wins. No one seems interested in bringing in new voters since then the politiqueras would loose sway. So this is the result you get when the stupidest 15% of the electorate is the one that makes the decisions! Go VOTE you morons!
Earn,
You really need to turn your attention to the County. Citizens we are being pick-pocketed. 1) Not only did our property values go way up, but 2) the money in the county coffers is going to pay for fluff salaries of a bunch of buffons, who do no work, and hardly ever show up to work. You're talkin' legions of them...
Sylvia Handy is going down! Who ever challenges her wins by default. But who will stand up?
Aaron Pena: "I feel like my work here is done."
Reality: "Speaker Craddick is done. So am I."
$10 Craddick still stays!
You find this kind of relationship prevalent in domestic violence situations and cults (hence, the Joe-idians).
***Hello Earn!!!
Does Carmen Gonzalez ring a bell? There you again, just like you did with Melba, ignoring a story, like that of Carmen, about her PROVEN police report about domestic violence! Wow, and Carmen is the school board president. How quickly you forget..or should I say ignore such a juicy story.
The rep. has had an incredible session can someone please talk him in to staying. Edinburg has never had this kind of clout. Earn do you know the rep and will you talk to him?
Anonymous at 11:45 a.m., dont you understand that if Aaron Pena's clout is a result of his relationship with Speaker Craddick. If Craddick is overthrown, Pena's clout is gone.
And I seem to remember that Pena's predecessors all had this type of clout. It's nothing new. Alex Moreno reached the level of being a vice chair of the Appropriations Committee. Eddie de la Garza was pretty damn powerful as was Juan Hinojosa. At one time or another all three made Texas Monthly's lists of top Legislators. (Yeah, you Juan Hinojosa detractors, he has always rated high.)
The only thing is that Aaron Pena is good at tooting his own horn. His name and picture are in every newspaper in Hidalgo County.
Aaron Pena reminds me of for Sen. Phil Gramm. They used to say that congressmen from Texas would work their asses off to get projects and funding for stuff in their districts. Phil Gramm would either oppose the funding or marginally support it. Yet when it came time to put out press releases and, Gramm was there to take credit.
Aaron Pena just has a good PR machine. That's it.
Kinda like Joe?
Isn't that what a leader is? A PR machine.
Being good at PR gets you far in politics...
Ok, Earn what's going on with the name changes to your blog. Are you having a crisis? Something like what's going on in austin. You better stick to county govt. Cause E-News is kicking your ass.
Lol. Sorry Joe. You'll still be my b*tch. :)
But seriously ... I thought you guys kept pushing me to go vallywide, now you're complaining.
It's ok. Edinburg is always my hometown and Joe, Gilbert & Robert ... I still got you. :)
Ha ha ha. Give them hell, Earn!
"Hah! Hah! About 75% of E-Saenz-News' own readers want Pena back. I wonder how long they will keep that poll up? Let's count the days. My guess - not long!

This person was right. Edinburg News removed the embarassing poll showing Rep. Pena overwhelmingly supported for re-election. It was taken down right away.
For all the bashing of Edinburg schools, there are only two Rio Grande Valley schools listed in Newsweeks Top 1000 public high schools that aren't in the South Texas ISD (i.e. MedHigh and SciTech). Those two are Edinburg North at 389 and Edinburg at 796. Only other Valley school rated is Brownsville Rivera at 1006.
At least in theory, we in Edinburg have the best schools in the Valley. So much for the McAllen ISD and its overrated International Baccalaurete program.
1 YEAR RE-CAP
CITY ELECTIONS CAME AND WENT
OCHOA v GARCIA= OCHOA won
GUS v EDDIE= GUS won
NOW WHAT ABOUT
1. The Started Police Dept Construction?
CANTU Construction put up like 3 hospitals in the same time span that Edinburg has had to put up a police station!
2. The New Water Plant?
3. The TAX FREEZE for the Elders?
Property values went up 5% across the board!
4. The New Trenton Mall?
They're putting up one stone a day!! All the landscaping was put on and now dying.
5. New City Hall and Sam Houston elementary blding Still sitting there.
Its been 1 year later, YET no RESULTS, maybe we should be calling this council FEMA? or the BUSH Administration? the tables turned for Bush, Ochoa will see the same results.
People will see that the Palacios support people in there runs for office, and Ochoa's network is a CLOSED network of Compadres and all those who have lost elections to those who've lost against candidates that were at one time supported by the Palacios.
"Hah! Hah! About 75% of E-Saenz-News' own readers want Pena back. I wonder how long they will keep that poll up? Let's count the days. My guess - not long!

Ahh i love your new site, earn!
Gilbert Mercado is not E-News regardless the 1+1=3 Theory earn has put together..With that kind of extrapolation skills I think earn should balance our federal defecit..earn you know it to be true no mas te haces pendejo..
Here is more substance to toot about, I hear Freddy Gonzalez received the Texas Medal of Honor. The governor has Pena's bill on his desk. The first from the Valley to receive the award. It helps to have a rep. that gets the job done.
Ah let's see. The Texas Legislative Medal of Honor was only created in 1997 and has only been awarded twice. When it is awarded, it is one of those unopposed things that no one votes against.
If Aaron Pena can't pass something that is usually an unopposed matter, then he has to be a total idiot.
Why then has Truan, Chuy or Lucio or Zaffarini or Cuellar or Kino or Veronica or Martinez not passed this before? By the way, this is the sixth time not the second and it is rarely achieved. Once again, thank you.
To quote Wikipedia: "The Legislative Medal of Honor has only been awarded twice. James M. Logan was awarded the first Legislative Medal of Honor on Memorial Day 1997 at the Texas Capitol in Austin and in May 2001 a joint session of the Texas Legislature, the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, presented the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor posthumously to MSgt. Roy P. Benavidez. Logan and Benavidez were also prior recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor."
Considering that Senate action is required and Benavidez being from Kingsville was one of Truan constituents, Truan was able to get it through.
Secondly, it was not just Pena who got the action. Hinojosa carried the companion Senate filing, SCR 79.
In any event, it was placed on the Local and Uncontested Calendar in both houses. That doesn't require much work.
Once again, it was the collaborate of several state legislators. It required Hinojosa carrying it on the Senate side. It was a collaboration.
There was a word that described when Phil Gramm used to do what Aaron Pena does. It's called Grammstanding.
And Aaron Pena does a lot of Grammstanding.
You stand corrected:
1) Sgt. James M. Logan (1997)
2) Lt. Jack Knight (1999)
3) Mstr Sgt. Roy Benavidez (2001)
4) Col. M. B. Etheredge (2003)
5) Capt. Robert Edlin (2005)
6) Freddy Gonzalez (2007)
You stand corrected again:
Roy Benavidez was from Cuero, Texas not Kingsville and further the bill was filed by Senator Shapleigh.
"Why then has Truan, Chuy or Lucio or Zaffarini or Cuellar or Kino or Veronica or Martinez not passed this before? "
Pena's accomplishments pale when when you consider that Truan, Hinojosa and Lucio were among the Reps who engineered the Pan American Univeristy-University of Texas merger and that Hinojosa and Lucio worked their asses off to get the RAHC for the Valley. And guess what? Pena can't lay claim to either of those because they pre-date his time in the Legislature.
Pena has yet to undertake a major initiative like the UT-PAU merger, the RAHC, or the creation of STCC. A small pork barrel project here and an uncontested resolution there doesn't make a great legislator.
Oh wow...Pena passed an uncontested resolution. Great accomplishment.
Despite your attempts to cloud the issue, your facts were wrong. These other elected officials are fine people and have done much, my simple point was that you were wrong in your facts. It simply gets old to hear the E-News crowd continue to trash the elected officials of this town. My point was made, you were and are wrong.
How about:
Cameron County DA Armando "If Joe Ochoa, Carmen Gonzalez and Amet Livingston had been caught playing slot machines at an 8-Liner Parlor in Cameron County, they would be in prison right now" Villalobos
or
Cameron County DA Armando "I'm too busy proscuting veijitas who play slot machines in my county and taking bribes from murderers like Amet Livingston that I let public officials from Hidalgo County get away with crimes at Padre Island" Villalobos
