Ok. This is what I recieved, by way of earnmyvote@hotmail.com. Remember that fax from the SPI Police Department that was posted on Edinburg News site? Yup, the recipent was scratched off. Well, here's the scoop.
Robert Pena, who is running against Melba Gonzalez for ECISD School Board, has been a bad boy. He is running a smear campaign a-la Joe Ochoa & Gilbert Mercado style. He is absolutely linked to Edinburg News and its smear site. How do I know? Simple.
Edinburg News promised a posting about Carmen Gonzalez accusing her of attempted murder. Well, the idiots posted the fax from the police department. A simple freedom of information request turned up the name Mitch Garcia and the fax number (956) 318-1071 as the requesting party.
Well, what do you know. A Google search of (956) 318-1071 returns the name Robert Pena, Jr. of 4622 South Business 281, Edinburg, TX and the email address of robjrpena@aol.com.
As stated in EdinburgPolitics.com, "Robert Peña, Jr. bringing proven track record of successes in bid for ECISD Place 4 trustee slot" lists Robert Pena, Jr.'s business as Development Consultants and Construction which is 4622 South Business 281, Edinburg, TX.
Look at the Texas State Bank 2nd Lien Deed of Trust, it states the same information.
So what does that mean? Robert Pena, Jr. is definately a contributor, if not an author, of Edinburg News.
Remember, Texas Election Code § 258.004. Fair Campaign Practices Act, (2) I will not use or permit the use of character defamation, whispering campaigns, libel, slander, or scurrilous attacks on any candidate or the candidate's personal or family life.
Robert Pena ... integrity? I don't think so. Robert Pena Jr. ... crooked and corrupt, definitely.

I had a feeling after trying to run Melba and Carmen through the mud, that something like this was going to pop up. Now, I really don't see a problem with him providing public information, but I see the problem being they touted this as an "attempted murder" charge more than once and they even printed fliers and passed them around schools touting the so called "attempted murder" charge. That in my view is where the problem lies. I guess it is true. Give an idiot enough rope and he will hang himself.

Look, I will be the first one to say that what Melba did was wrong, but do you think that this is an isolated incident. Yes she was stupid to do and say what she did, but she isn't the first board member to misuse her power. About 2 years ago one of the board members was threatening to kick some kids out of school if they harassed his daughter in school. I didn't realize that expelling children and threatening them was a board members job. There are plenty of instances where certain board members have used "questionable judgment" as far as accepting gifts from vendors such as tickets to dallas cowboys fooball games and other extracurricular activities at the taxpayers expense. I think Mario Lopez was well within his rights to go to the media with his story, but why not put a complaint on file 2 years ago when the message was first recorded? All I can say is this is going to get very, VERY ugly and people are going to be very suprised. Or worse, may not suprised at all. Let me tell you a little story. Not so long ago (a couple of years ago) in a place not so far away (New Orleans to be exact, coincidently at the same location as the school board conference that was taking place at that time) 4 buddies were having a good time playing golf and gambeling. Suddenly they run out of "spending money" and called a good friend (who just happens to sell health insurance when a certain school district was about to start looking for new health insurance) for some emergency funds to be sent via western union to continue to fun. "But please don't send to to any of us," said one of the buddies. "I know" said one of the buddies, when you send it, use my brothers name so that way it's not easily traced back to me. Don't use his first name, just put Dr. so that way there are no questions asked. So the deed was done and the fun continued. Unfortunately all this was documented by another person and has been "waiting" in the wings for a while (kinda like a two year old recorded conversation). Since it seems like this week is the week to start airing out dirty laundry, it seems that this documentation is making it's way into the hands of some very important people. Moral of the story: HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMANS SCORN. Good luck. Pandoras box has been opened.

Hey, since arrests are being brought up, what about the 4 school board members arrested at SPI for drinking while riding a fishing boat. I'll give you two of them: Greg Garcia and Jaime Chavana. If you don't believe me, ask for the public record. If not, ask Ben Lim that used to be with the Edinburg Daily Review.
The Edinburg voters had their chance to vote out Chavana, but they failed to do so. Chavana is one of the biggest crooks ECISD has ever had.
As for Melba Gonzalez, she did what needed to be done to protect her disabled sister.

I heard that the entire Mario Lopez-Melba Gonzalez has an even wider, more sinister implications.
Word is that the ECISD is about to remove Robert Alaniz as Athletic Director. (All politics aside, it's a move that is long overdue considering how pathetic Edinburg North athletics have become and how mediocre the district's two other high school athletic programs are.) And replace him with the ailing Robert Vela, the head football coach at Edinburg High School.
A major motivation behind Vela's promotion is that the man is battling inoperable cancer of the stomach and esophagus. This way, Vela's recovery won't be harmed by having to coach in the extreme July, August and September heat. It is also believed that Vela would have the knowhow and attitude to restore pride to the ECISD athletic programs.
Vela's purported first target would be the incompetent Lopez who has destroyed Edinburg North once great football program.
Lopez's disclosure of the two-year old tape could have saved his job. If this tactic doesn't save his job, he can sue claiming political retaliation because he went to the media with Melba's voice mail rant.
Suffice to say, Alaniz and Lopez have been bestfriends since they coached the Ninth Grade football team at the Edinburg Junior High School in the early 80s.
Even more interesting is that both Alaniz and Lopez coached Robert Pena in football when he was a 9th grader at Edinburg Junior High.

Hold on a minute! Whoever wrote this must not know a thing about football. I played football under Coach Lopez when he won Coach of the Year. Edinburg North was at its best when he took over. Even channel 4 says "The Edinburg CISD is the second largest school district in the Rio Grande Valley. It spans over 945-square miles (largest in the state) and has a student membership of 29,000 plus and more than 4,200 employees."
