Give me some Election Protection ... again
With all the back biting and everyone trying to screw eachother over, this plot should be part of an after-dark movie rather than the ECISD election. Ok, here it is and I will not say it again.
Who was wrong? Everyone ... Melba Gonzalez, Mario Lopez and Robert Pena Jr. Who stayed right? Carmen Gonzalez. Let me expound.
Let's start with Robert Pena Jr. & Carmen Gonzalez.
As we have seen in a previous blog "Robert Pena Jr. is one of the rats from Edinburg News," Robert Pena Jr. and his Edinburg News site is the one who posted information regarding a Class C Misdemeanor against Carmen Gonzalez. If you don't know, a Class C Misdemeanor equates to a parking ticket or in this case ... an argument. How is Robert Pena Jr. wrong? Stating the obvious, he is running a smear campaign under Edinburg News, itself a violation of Texas Election Code § 258.004.
Carmen Gonzalez has gracefully turned the other cheek.
Next let's talk about Melba Gonzalez & Mario Lopez.
Melba Gonzalez, while on the Edinburg CISD Board, made a highly inappropriate statement/suggestion/threat to Mario Lopez regarding his wife. That is against her Board Member Code of Ethics; however, the violation was about 2 years ago. To punish Melba Gonzalez for her conduct, the public may either (1) vote her off or (2) file a petition to a District Judge.
Mario Lopez sat on a recording for two years until he could use it to his advantage. He should have brought this out back then, through the appropriate channels. Further, he used coercive means in order to influence Melba Gonzalez's decision to give him and his wife favorable contracts. Evenmore, Mario Lopez should have also reported his DWI to the ECISD. These actions are against his Educator Code of Ethics. To punish Mario Lopez for his conduct, the ECISD may take discplinary action, including termination of employment.
Now let's move to Melba Gonzalez & Robert Pena Jr.
Back to the tape. Who released the tape ... easy ... Mario Lopez. But who encouraged Mario Lopez to release the tape and planned for the release? Robert Pena Jr. Yup, in his Edinburg News site, Robert said he was "sitting on a gold mine" and called for the release of the tape to Channel 4 News since March 10, 2007. This was not a new development.
On March 9, 2007, Robert Pena Jr., in his Edinburg News site, stated,
This just in Jesusa Ramirez, Melba Gonzalez's sister makes 66,215.00 a yr. We are in the process of getting a recording that took place between Melba Gonzalez and an administrator. In reference to her sister Jesusa. Stay tuned!
So far, Melba Gonzalez has not brought up any of Robert Pena Jr.'s past at the EEDC.
My Opinion.
Who is it we are looking for, Melba Gonzalez or Robert Pena Jr.? First we have a Board Member getting upset and making threats then we have a manwho is conniving and childish even before entering office. I will cast my vote for the former because she was acting human and not for the man who was caught with his hand in the cookie jar ... again (first at the EEDC - misappropriation of funds). You choose who you want.
What should happen to Mario Lopez? All politics aside, he should be terminated. No man like this should be trusted in the Education of our children ... teaching them to lie in wait or to be maliciously opportunistic, nor should any other employee of the ECISD trust him.
What should happen to Carmen Gonzalez? Well, she has taken the high road. We need more people like this.

Wow, pretty insightful stuff. It's funny that Earn takes the time to write a well written piece, analyzing what has transpired in the past week and you get a detailed view into Earn's rational. It's pretty evident that Earn is a cerebral person. Then you have someone from Joe's clan with their rebuttals, not once, but twice. At 1:45 and 1:47. Insightful? Not really. Thought provoking? Not even close. But it does show the mentality of the people on one side versus another. If ignorace is bliss, then they must be the happiest people on the planet.
I was approached by a coach yesterday who was talking about the board meeting the other night. He said how great it was to see how all those community members and families were in attendence to support coach Alaniz. I wasn't in there so I asked a few people who were there. I laughed so hard when I was told, there were about 10 people there in support of coach Alaniz, the packed house was due to families there while their children were receiving recognition for their accomplishments. Even without his 10 supporters (all of which were either coaches or former players) there would have still been a packed house for that meeting. I looked on line for the agenda of the meeting and of course, they were right. Here is part of the agenda for that nights meeting.

In all, I was told there were about 100 children there with their families for recognition for their hard work. It's sad that someone would think they had everything to do with them being there. I guess someone isn't as popular as they would like to believe.

We all know you're Melba and Carmen's bitch. Why don't you talk about Carmen's book company and how she's profiting from being a board member.

Why are we still talking about Lopez? He's not the one running for school board. This is just your tactic to try to keep people from focusing on Melba. Nice try, but no one is buying it.
The reason people are still talking about him is because even though he is not running, his motives are extremely politically motivated because not only is he out to destroy a board member, he is also feverently backing her opponent so much so, that he as personally donated quite a few pretty pennies to his campaign. So while you are right, he is not running, he has certainly thrown his OWN hat into the political arena.
Keep the focus on Melba. Once again, she was defending her sister. Unlike 'Cinpelotas' Lopez, she did something. Cry all you want, but Melba did the right thing. If she doesn't win the election, at least we know that she will defend her family unlike 'Cinpelotas'.
Keep your focus on the fact that Robert Pena Jr. is Edinburg News!
Keep your focus on Earn=Palacios.

Ahhh, is someone still a little upset that her husband lost to a Palacios last year after losing to Ciro Trevino the year before? It must be sad to be married to a loser like that. Looks like the only way he can sit on some kind of board is if he is appointed to it by Joe Ochoa as a pitty favor.
How do you justify the termination of Mario, but not Melba.
Melba is in a leadership position. Making these threats. Making these promises. If Mario gets booted, so should Melba. Melba was not acting like a school board member.
Its as per the Board policy and the Texas Administrative Code written way before this event even came up.

Furthermore, should the converse apply? If Melba gets booted then so should Mario?

I think this post pretty much tells it as it is.....I do think Lopez waited to long to come forward, but I dont think that warrants termination...But that's my opinion....all in all, a pretty poor showing for ECISD.
it's commom knowledge that once elected to any position on the school board or city commission the winners start wrestling in for job positions for family and close friends. so what is happening in edinburg, also happens in mcallen, mission, psja and all over. the TEA should investigate the hiring practices at ECISD. they would find out that there's a high percentage of board families working there. melva gonzalez set herself up by getting her sister hired at ECISD. whatever her disability doesn't warrant her a job where her sister is a board member and should know the policy on nepotism. that goes for the rest of the board members. but really don't expect anything to be done about all this. the district and community will turn the other way. the sad part of all this, is that her opponent in the may election is just as sleasy if not worse. so edinburg wake up, the next time someone runs for a positiion on the school board, if they say it's "for the children", trust me it's not. their family and friends need jobs.
If TEA did an investigation then they would find a high concentration of Chavanas in the district.

I know for sure that Carmen was pushing NES. But she was pushing it back then too. She gets a cut for all the books she gets into this district. By the way, NES's book are cheap books that have very little value and are priced at $16.00 a piece. So do the math! Carmen hates that fact that we don't want NES books in this district and that we don't go out for bids. We use the Region One bids to be fair.
Sandra Lopez really is not qualified to do her job. Rumors where flying around about her being hired before there was even an interview. Librarians and other administrators were pissed off. But why was Sandra Lopez moving from PSJA to Edinburg CISD, huh? Could it be that she sink her teeth into a man? She has a pending case in which she had bitten a man. Yes, this is a real case.
Poor Sandra Lopez! She doesn’t know why people don't like her and why she has so much trouble. It because she believes she is above others and she treats everyone like their scum of the earth. I thought she was a holy woman? It’s an image cover up, and the truth is that she has been plotting against Jesusa and Melba because of the Eddie Mendoza case. Funny thing is that Sandra Lopez forgot how she got into Edinburg CISD.
Mrs. Sandra Lopez, you were a favor to Mr. Lopez and you are and were never qualified for your position. So face that fact that you are only qualified for Social Studies. TAXPAYERS will be saving some money here.

Someone mention something about Melba getting her sister into the district. WELL, that fact is that Jesusa was already hired by the school district several years before Melba ever came into the picture. The only reason that Jesusa is earning $66,000 is because she does have her Master and certification. HELL, she is more qualified than Sandra Lopez. HELL, I believe that mices are more qualified than Mrs. Lopez. Beside, Jesusa was moved from one school to another because of her disability and the fact that some poeple could not put up with her. So they place her in an area were no one would really interact with her.
Don't try to justify the hiring of Jesusa Ramirez. Melba lost this election. Carmen your next!

regarding melba's sister,jesusa, if people don't like her and couldnt stand being around her why isn't she fired. is it because of her sister??? i bet that if it were me and i didn't have anybody on the board i would have been fired, terminated because i couldn't get along with my peers.why is she different?? oh, i forgot because her sister is a board member.
