If we are going to be picking on Melba for having a sister in the district, we should look at Greg Garcia's sister and brother-in-law who also works for the district. Melba is not the only one who has made ugly phone calls, Greg used to call up people over the phone when his friends would get in trouble. You can find his brother-in-law at the textbook website.
Sandra Lopez really is not qualified to do her job. Rumors where flying around about her being hired before there was even an interview. Librarians and other administrators were pissed off. But why was Sandra Lopez moving from PSJA to Edinburg CISD, huh? Could it be that she sink her teeth into a man? She has a pending case in which she had bitten a man. Yes, this is a real case.

it has never been "for the children". these people that sit on the school board are so full of themselves it's pitiful. citizens of edinburg let's start cleaning house by getting rid of these people sitting on the board, then maybe mr. garza can do the rest. i have alot of respect for mr. garza, he is a gentleman and has always conducted himself like so. i pray he doesn't let us down.
Political Debate vs. Gang Politics City residents drawing political lines.
Political debate by nature is done in a controlled environment with a moderator, time limit and form in which it is conducted (ie Lincoln Douglas debate)
but what we see on these blogs as well as on the streets. Clicks, Groups, Circles, or Gangs if you will are just taking control of others and imposing their will on them on who to vote for. These residents are rounded up like cattle, stamped (voted), then freed back into the wild. Prior to voting these rounded up residents are schooled as to who to vote for via a cheat sheet with the gang's names on it.
Now is this right? Well depends on who you ask, does everyone do it, hell why not! But again wheres the democracy in that? I wonder if they do that in third world countries? What do you think? Well in some form or other, when voting turn outs are as low as they are here in Hidalgo County, Political Gangs will resort to just about anything to get people to go vote. Now are these violations un-ethical? or immoral? or abuse? or just not in the best interest of this group or that group, well that is the controversial political divide we here in the valley call La Politica.
Seem like some people don't like the ugly truth. I can careless who wins the election, as long as the trash at ECISD is take out. We don't need this shit. We need people to refocus our efforts back on to our kids and we need the right people in the right position. I don't believe that Gilbert should have gotten it. He is more of a "YES" man to the board. Change are coming but are they really for the best. Don't forget the kids.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to praise this blog for being such a proponent of free speech, or condemn Edinburg News for shutting down readers comments, because, after all, with the exception of a couple of your readers, most of the comments – including yours, Edinburg News, and mine – are written anonymously, which shows one trait all of us share: we are too chicken-s*** to put our names to it.
So let's keep things in perspective, all of you other readers, because if we keep patting ourselves on the back, like we tend to do about how the blogosphere is Freedom of Speech at its best, we could throw a shoulder out of whack!
Speaking of the ole blogosphere, Earn, have you had a chance to scour cyberspace and find out if any blogs exist that talk about McAllen's dirty laundry? I mean, really, this stuff about "Saddam Ochoa" and "Dirty Hariette" is getting kind of old.
If you expand your coverage into McAllen, your readership will really grow, because all McAllen knows is what the Monitor writes about that city, and it takes an act of Congress to get the Monitor to say anything controversial about McAllen. I mean, really, no-smoking ordinance in McAllen bars and restaurants is the big issue? Puleeaze!

For those of you who want to know what kind of people the school board has to deal with, here is a story that is about to get out today. It seems that the day after the school board meeting this week, someone doused the front door of school board member David Torres' business. Then over the weekend he received a note telling him that it was a warning and if he ever voted against them again, they would burn down his business. Voted against who you may ask? Well there were plenty of reassignments this week which some people were not happy with. They made sure to go to the Edinburg Review, The Monitor and the Channel 4 with their one sided stories of what they call corruption. What kind of people are these? Are they educators or part of the mafia? Makes you wonder what kind of person would hold on to tape recorded conversations for years for blackmail and threaten your livelihood for their lucrative school district jobs.
What kind of person would leave a message like that? I'll tell you one sick, mentally disturbed person.
The same kind of people who run around knocking down and defacing political signs of candidates they don't support and accuse people of "attempted murder" with no proof whatsoever (only to find out later that once again, they lied). Scum, is the word that sums it up.

It's no different than the other BBQ's that were thrown by coaches for support for Greg Garcia. Again, it's their right. As far as Carmen Gonazalez goes, it might interest you to know that the company that she USED to work for (no longer works there) has done business with the district for years and years. Since back when Joe Ochoa served on the school board. So no, it doesn't look suspicious. Again, you are trying to make an issue where there is no issue. If you want to talk about issues, talk about how your people threatened to burn down David Torres' business if he ever voted against what Jaime Chavana and Greg Garcia and a few coaches want for the district. Speaking of "inventing stories," how about your buddies at the Monitor, creating a bunch of controversy about Robert Alaniz supposedly being reassigned from AD to oversee physical plant operations and blaming political retailiation, or implying that the new superintendent is way overpaid, or running a story about a tape recording of Melba Gonzalez allegedly threating someone without bothering to get a copy of the tape recording, or...well, you get the picture.
Funny thing, that paper ignores the controversies that involve the McAllen superintendent (the school district buys huge ads in the Monitor as hush money), they have ignored the McAllen city commission campaigns, relegating them to stupid, simplistic stories about how they all agree of some issues, and they really ignore the campaigns for the McAllen Public Utilities Board (can you say, 'Who controls the water in McAllen'?).
And by the way, Channel 5 also is on top of this "breaking news" about the gasoline dousing of David Torres office (that's pretty sick, you know), and all of the news media you mentioned all got the tip about that Torres episode today, at the same time, so maybe someone inside Edinburg PD has their own agenda to push because honestly, I can't figure out why anyone in the school board race would benefit from a lunatic doing something like threatening arson.
Now, don't get me wrong. Most of the reporters at the Monitor are pretty good writers, but even you must admit their editors and top management have it out for Edinburg. Notice how they missed the story about the Sekula Library opening, and they certainly ignored the fact that that library was one of the many great achievements by Richard Garcia?
Now, Earn, even though that newspaper once said you were the "Top Dog" on the Internet in Edinburg politics, don't let it go to your head. The minute they can come up with your identity, they'll expose you. Your coverage of Edinburg politics, one-sided as it is, is killing the Monitor, and they have no reason to want to see you succeed.

These are sad days in Edinburg! Our school district is at its all time low. Gone are the days when a school trustee was a respected man or woman. School Board Members brought disrespect upon themselves when throughout the Valley some believed they were entitled to bribes. All it takes is one bad apple to poison the tree. The legislature should make one big Hidalgo County school district appointed by our govenor and then give contractors immunity from lawsuits in order to lower our taxes and eliminate the need for high insurance costs.

Speaking of conspiracy theories, that was quite an interesting story that Roxanne Lerma with Channel 4 did with Omar Guerrero.
But wait! His attorney, Rick Salinas, is a son of Mission Mayor Norberto Salinas, who is facing a tough reelection bid in his hometown. Does that mean that His Honor gave his blessings to his son to defend Omar in exchange for Omar's Democratic friends voting for the Republican mayor in a tight reelection fight?
But wait again! Rick Salinas used to work for Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, who has quite a reputation for manipulating – I mean, "working with" – the news media, so does that mean our senator is behind Omar's quest for freedom, too?
But wait again! Channel 4 pretty much has been kicking everyone's posterior with political scoops the last few weeks, so does that mean Channel 4 cut a deal with Omar and Rick in exchange for – let's face it — a pretty sympathic story about a young man who had fallen into the dark side, only to repent and see the light?

That can only mean that Rick Salinas is Edinburg News, because Edinburg News prints everything opposite to what you publish, and we all know what you think about poor ole Omar!
Sorry, Robert Pena, but your claim to fame as Edinburg News only lasted a couple of weeks. Unless, of course, Robert Pena knows Jaime Chavana who knows Rene Ramirez who is top gun for Juan HInojosa who knows Roxanne Lerma who ran the sympathetic story on Omar Guerrero so DA Rene Guerra could come on TV to rip into Omar Guerrero so he could look like he doesn't like Omar Guerrero when everyone knows Omar's family heavily supported Rene Guerra for DA who....WAIT! Rene Guerra must be Edinburg News! Yeah....That's it....
Again, not much about what this candidate or that candidate will do for improving our school system which bring about better results for our children.
Lets look beyond all this political posturing and exercise the perfect free will which God has given all of us.
Lets vote for those who would do the right thing by our children.
I think it's sick that the jerks at E-News are trying to downplay the threat made to David Torres. How do they explain it? Simply as a ploy by Carmen and Melba to take away the "spotlight" from Melba. How stupid can you be? I knew those people has shit for brains but come on, get your head out of Joe's ass an see the world for what it really is. It's really sad that David is volunteering his time and efforts to the school district and since he has been on the board, the district is moving in a positive direction. Now I know the coaches have had their way with the board for years now while certain board members promote their family members and friends to positions they don't even meet the minimum requirements to be in, but those days have come to an end. I applaud David and his efforts and hope they catch the people responsible. I have my theories about who it is and it centers around vindictive and spiteful family members of a couple of board members but that's just my theory. I'm sure in time, you will find it's true. But make no mistake, this is both political and personal, I don't care what Irene Mercado (Gilbert Mercado's mother) says about it. On channel 4 she said, "I don't think it's anything that has anything to do with the elections -- something personal probably" and then goes on to say, "I wouldn't say that it's any political camp right now that doing any of that." I stongly disagree with Mrs. Mercado, and to use coach lopez's words, "It would be farcical to not to believe its not political." I can almost guarantee that if it was Robert Pena's office that was vandalized and threatened, she would have a different view of the situation. As you have already seen, there have been plenty of people with criminal backgrounds that oppose the reassignment of the athletic director, I'm sure in time will narrow it down to one of them.

I only wish a lawsuit would follow so he could be deposed in order to nail down the other persons involved.
I hope, if he does win, the lawsuit would follow, so that the suit would then take on greater meaning and publicity.

There is a difference between freedom of speech and flat out libel and slander. Freedom of speech is commenting or expressing your opinion, libel and slander is trying to damage somebodys reputation with flat out lies. Earn not liking Joe Ochoa or his cronies for his reasons is freedom of speech. Robert Pena accusing Carmen Gonazlez of attempted murder, printing his lies and passing it around to the schools in order to damage her credibility for political gain is against the law. It's obvious that Earn and his/her supporters don't like Joe Ochoa but they don't threaten to burn down his business if they don't get their way. Sorry to say that the same can't be said about the criminals at Edinburg News.
