Mario Lopez is claiming that ECISD School Board President made good on a "threat" to demote his wife, Sandra Lopez. As stated in the April 23, 2007 "School Board President caught on tape" Team 4 News report, the recording "[reveals] what appears to be the ugly side of threats and favors in the Edinburg school district political arena." The problem is that "[Mario] Lopez s wife, Sandra [Lopez,] would harass [Melba Gonzalez's] disabled sister in the district warehouse where they both worked."
For his five minutes of fame on Team 4 News, Mario Lopez should be revealed on the other side of the scandal.

No, he doesn't sit on the board, but he is an employee of the district and should have been reprimanded at least. Instead, it was swept under the carpet. It seems that there have been some busy little bees working hard right now. The really funny thing is that Edinburg News is claiming that changes taking place in the district are all political in nature, but they've been sitting on a recording for a year and a half and dug up a police report from 10 years ago to release about 1 week before early voting. Tell me where that is not political. Trust me when I tell you that this is just the start to what promises to be a very ugly election. The mudslinging has entered the media. I can assure you, Robert Pena won't come out of this with clean hands. Something tells me he is behind this.
a DWI is considered a misdemeanor.....3 would be considered a felony. I don't honestly know how many he has had. There is no grounds for termination if a district employee has committed a misdemeanor. Now if Mr. Lopez had committed a felony, then that would be considered grounds for termination. If you are refering to the Catherine Norquest case featured in the Paper of South Texas, you need to get your facts straight. She was never his ex.

I don't think Mario held himself up to be a saint. He is just trying to stand up for his wife. It's common knowledge that Garza, the superintendant, is Melba's puppet. Why is it so coincidental that all the people who are being reshuffled are people who Melba has a strong dislike for? I think she wants Sandra out of there so she can put her "disabled" sister there instead. Earn and Melba keep saying that Mrs. Lopez harrassed Jesusa. What did she do to her? Why didn't Jesusa ever complain about it? She's certainly not shy about causing trouble. Jesusa has been reassigned several times because no one can stand her. She poisons every department she works in.

This appears to be another classic example of Earn trying to hide the truth. The bottom line is that this woman is a school board member. Whether she made a threat or not. The phone call was out of line. That is what the real story is. It isn't about whether Mr. Lopez had a DWI. It is about an elected official calling someone and telling them off on the phone.

How about the boys at The Paper of South Texas. David Robledo, another former Freedom Newspaper reporter, does a print story on politicos that matches anything 60 Minutes has done on TV. Matt Harrelson, former editorial page editor of the Monitor, and now at St. Mary's Law School, is also part of that newspaper. You think neither of those two men have what it takes to get stories into the mainstream press? Think again! Controversial as their newspaper is, at least the have the balls to put their names on their articles.

The only way you can catch this guy is when you find none of his fingerprints at the scene of the crime. That's a pro!
For that matter, how about any citizen of Edinburg with a keen mind, a computer hooked on to the internet, and an axe to grind against Melba? Those thousands of citizens also should be on your list of suspects.
